During the Christmas of 1978, four years after twins Garret and Beaux witness the murder of their parents, they move to the small town of Marx Valley, Arizona. They soon encounter Adrienne, who introduces Beaux to the ancient Polynesian concept of Soulshine, a ritual that allows women to obtain sexual relationships with spirits. Soulshine promises to provide a damaged and desperate woman with otherworldly pleasures and comfort that they will never be able to find in a mortal soul.

Adrienne and her enchanting friend Gabby can see the pain radiating from Beaux and hope to convince her to become part of their 'triangle.' The triangle must include three women with the qualities needed to evoke the spirits through Soulshine. Under the ever-watchful and terrifying Polynesian deity Papi Kanaloa, ruler of the afterlife and far beyond, the three broken souls seek satisfaction and comfort through the ritual and each other. Beaux, Gabby, and Adrienne embark on a journey in search of a love that is not only out of this world but endlessly disturbing.
